Top Laptop Repair Problems

By: John Schofield

Have you encountered any problem with your laptop lately? Like many other machines, your laptop can also bail out on you even in situations when you really need it. There are common laptop repair problems that you have to be aware of. If you want to repair your own laptop or apply to become a repair service personnel for laptops, knowing these common problems is an asset. When you encounter them, at least you would know what to do. These problems consist of issues from the power source to the laptop’s internal hardware.

The basic thing that you need to learn is how to take the laptop apart. This is necessary if you want to take a look at the machine’s internal hardware. You can get instructions from Google or look it up in YouTube for some instructional videos. There are many tutorial resources that you can find online. If you take the machine apart the wrong way, you will only make its repair problem worse. Here are the top laptop repair problems that you need to know how to remedy:

1. Power source problem
This is one of the common problems among laptops. This requires that the laptop be taken apart. Usually, the problem lies in the power jack or the adapter of the machine.

2. Hard drive malfunction
This is usually caused by movement and physical shock, especially if you are rough in handling your laptop while you are on the move. The laptop might be built for mobility, but this can affect the machine negatively. This problem is minimised now with the use of the solid state technology in laptops. This enables them to take more shocks than what they were used to taking.

3. Overheating
This occurs when you use the laptop in a workspace with no air flow, hot temperature and other unfavourable conditions. When the laptop is overheated, it usually shuts down by itself. To solve this problem, always check if its fan is still working and use it only in appropriate workspaces. You can also buy an external cooling fan to ensure that the laptop will not turn its back on you.

4. Cracked screen
Mobility is a good feature for computer machines like laptops. This is even the main reason why many people buy laptops. However, mobility can also damage the laptop if it is not handled well during transportation. Cracked screen can happen if you keep moving with your laptop placed in an unsuitable bag for its storage. You need to find a laptop bag and avoid putting anything heavy in it other than the laptop unit itself and the battery.

5. Water damage
This can happen if you are drinking while using your laptop. If your drink spills on to the keyboard or any part of the laptop, this can seep through to your internal hardware. Water might corrode the internal hardware and other parts of the laptop. It is much safer if you do not drink anything at all if you are using the laptop.

If you are already locating the different parts for your laptop repair, you can go to the Internet and use the search engines to find what you are looking for.

USB Drive Security Software is Designed to Protect Your Data

By: Lucas Richardson

Computers have quickly become a standard of life. There is not one person alive that can say that they have never feasted their eyes on a computer screen at one time or another in their lives. With the number of people that opt to utilize computers rising, the amount of people that are paying extra money to use accessories for their computers is also rising; therefore, creating a great market for usb drive security software programs.

Most adults and even teenagers are beginning to adopt the principal of using flash drives to save their precious data. These drives are made to plug directly into a USB port, where they can easily transfer files from your computer onto a small outside port.

However, due to the small size of these devices, around 5000 of them go missing on a day to day basis. Obviously, if the primary reason why you utilized the device was for recreational purposes, then losing the device is no big deal. There are a lot of people that leave some pretty intimate information on these small external plug ins.

Business information, journal entries, and even personal financial records, can all be stored on these small drives. Therefore, you could imagine if this information were to come in contact with the wrong hands, how much havoc could be reaped on your personal information. Identify thieves, would love to get their hands on these external devices so they can begin ruining your life.

If you are going to keep all of your precious and private data protected by utilizing one of these flash drives, it is imperative that you protect yourself as well. There is an affordable piece of software that exists that will help you safeguard all of the information that you load onto these external discs.

Installing the USB drive security software is not difficult to do. You will need to plug the device directly into one of the USB ports located on your computer. After it has been plugged into one of your ports, you will need to then proceed to open up the data, just like you would typically do in order to access any previously stored information.

However, after the flash drive has been opened, you will need to lock in your data by clicking a small icon that should appear on your screen that either will say lock in or save. By utilizing this software, all of your files that you save on your flash drive will be encrypted.

The only way the encrypted files will be able to open for you to view is if you enter in a password to access the files. The files that are encrypted will be impossible for anyone to break through. Therefore, you can rest easy that if you were to lose your external data port, that no one besides you would be able to gain access to the information that was previously stored on it.

USB drive security software is designed to protect the user of the flash drive. It not only encrypts private information so it cannot be viewed by outside entities, it also securely deletes files on your drive that you do not want anyone to ever be able to gain access to.

Trojan Virus attacks: An analysis

by: Herry willson

What is a Trojan virus?

A virus that looks like a harmless and useful program but actually contains a code that can destroy data or install adware or spyware on your computer. Trojan viruses can be embedded in email attachments, programs that have been downloaded, or even through operating system vulnerabilities on your computer.

A recent tactic that hackers are using is to put the virus in pictures. Never download anything you do not recognize. Unlike the regular computer viruses Trojans do not replicate.

What does a Trojan virus do to your computer?

Trojan viruses can do much damage to your computer or worse, hackers can read the files and personal information from your computer and steal your identity. They can also add unwanted spyware and ad ware, deliver unsolicited pop-ups and advertising, all without your consent.

So how can get rid of them?

Most if not all antivirus programs will detect and remove Trojans, viruses and other unwanted programs from your computer automatically. For e-mail attachments, you may have to scan them individually. There are programs you can download that will do it automatically. There is plenty of anti-virus software free and paid out there that can look at. Payment programs usually have more features that can be used as a registry cleaner.

Whatever your choice may be, make sure you have installed the latest version, periodically perform system analysis, and updated with the latest version to keep your computer protected.

One of the most evil and insidious things ever invented was the Trojan virus. What person with dementia thought of this is beyond comprehension. Trojan virus infiltrates your entire computer system and affects its ability to quickly browse the Internet and in the worst cases can cause the entire system to crash, permanently delete data stored on your hard drive.

There are some steps you can take to the removal of Trojan viruses, to save all your data and installed software. If you take your computer to a repair shop or the Geek Squad you want to delete the entire hard drive after saving valuable documents. After going to reinstall the operating system software and make your computer virus free.

The problem with this method is that it is expensive, time consuming, and you can never recover the installed applications. Unless you have the original application software installation discs and registration number to go with it, you have to buy new programs. That can reach hundreds and even thousands of dollars if you have a lot of expensive programs installed as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, ProSeries, and many others.

You can also simply download a virus cleaner and run it. That will solve more problems and run the Trojan virus removal desired. If your computer crashes or can not connect to the Internet, which happens a lot with Trojan virus infections.

How to Set Up a Joomla Blog

When it comes to setting up your own blog,WordPress currently rules the roost. Easy to set up and easy to use and with a million and one templates out there for you to choose from, WordPress offers blogging and website creation without the need for a single word of html code.
However, with new technologies arriving every day and new demands being placed on the old ‘wysiwyg’ editor, it seems that bloggers are beginning to look for something a bit more in-depth and
a bit more robust. Step up Joomla, one of the more popular and robust CMS systems on the market that is growing in popularity. In this article, we’ll explore how to manually upload Joomla and launch your
first Joomla site.
The first thing to note is that many hosting companies now offer one click installs of Joomla alongside WordPress, and if you have this option available, it is an easier route. On the other hand, it is sometimes better to do things manually yourself, as it will help you build a better understanding of the Joomla CMS. Here, we will be performing a conventional installation ourselves which involves copying the Joomla zip file to our hosting account, creating a database and then running the installation.

Step One – Downloading Joomla

In order to get Joomla running on your site, all you need to do is follow a few simple steps. The first thing to do is download Joomla to your computer. For the latest version (currently 1.6), go towww.joomla.org and click on download to get the zip file.

Step Two – Uploading to your host

Once you’ve got the file and unzipped it, it is now time to upload the contents of the file to your webserver. You can do this using any FTP client (I use cyberduck). In order to make sure the installation is successful, you should first check that your server is running Apache version 1.3 (or higher) as well as MySQL v3.23 and PHP v4.3.10.

Step Three – Setting Up a Database

In order for the installation to work properly, we need to first set up a database that can hold all the data that Joomla will use to operate. In this article, we will use phpMyAdmin for the setting up and management of our database. In phpMyAdmin, we simply set up a new database from the dashboard area and then set one privileged user for that database.

Step Four – Beginning the Installation

As with WordPress installations, you can choose whether to install your Joomla blog into the root directory of the server (and therefore have the address www.yourdomain.com) or you can add it to the root domain (and have the address www.yourdomain.com/joomlablog).
Whichever path you have taken, go to that address and open the index.php file to begin installing Joomla. Choose the language of your installation (English in this case) and click next. Joomla will then check whether the server you are using contains all the necessary system requirements and if there is anything missing from your server, will tell you what you need to do to make it right.
Once this is all done, you will be redirected to the standard GNU licence for Joomla. Click next to then connect to your database.

Step Five – Connecting the Database

As mentioned above, Joomla will need a database to hold all its data. Here, we will simply select MySQL from the options given and will leave this named ‘localhost’ for the Host Name. Give the database a password and username and a database name, then click next so that you can connect to the database.

Step Six – Finish the Installation

Finally, fill in all the details required such as the name of the site and the details of the blog administrator. On the next page, remove the installation folder. And that’s it, you’ve now got your first Joomla site up and running.

Joomla as a Blog

If you intend to use Joomla as a blog, you’ll need to do some reading up on how to organize it. To get started though, go to Content>Category Manager>Add New Category and create a category called Blog. This will be the section that you write your blog in.
After this, you’ll need to define the categories of your blog and then create a menu and menu links for navigating around the blog, all of which is very simple to do and there are plenty of instructions in the template that you have just set up. For those people coming to Joomla from WordPress, it will feel different at first, but the site template comes with so many links to tutorials and forums where you can find answers to all your questions that very quickly you’ll be a Joomla master!

Top 6 Free Antivirus Programs

AVG Free

AVG Free was mentioned in my list before, and it must be in this list as well.  It is probably the most used free antivirus software out there.  It provides great antivirus and antispyware protection, and it also uses Safe Search which helps protect you from those bad webpages that can sometimes come up in your search results.

Avast

Avast is often seen as the biggest competitor to AVG Free due to its simplicity and ease of use.  In addition to the normal protection, I find the P2P and IM shield to be a great feature of this client.  However, there is one negative with this client.  You will have to take the time to register it in order to keep using it.  This registration is free, but it does take time.  Are you lazy like me?

Anti Vir

Anti Vir has been gaining a lot of support from the techies around the Internet.  I believe the basis from this comes from great protection with the ability to scan up to 20% faster than other clients.

Bitdefender

Bitdefender provides the same basic virus and spyware scanning, and it adds immediate scanning, a skinable interface and statistical reports.  The reports are always a nice touch, because some people want to know everything that is going on with their computer.

Clamwin is obviously the most basic antivrius on the list, but that isn’t always a bad thing.  Clamwin may not be as robust as some of the others on the list, but if you don’t need lots of bells and whistles this would be a great choice.

Comodo

Comodo provides a very basic antivirus software that is easy to use.  It also has an extremely small memory footprint, so you can actually do other things while it is running on your computer.

The Maldives

The Maldives consists of approximately 1,190 coral islandsgrouped in a double chain of 26 atolls, along the north-south direction, spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometres, making this one of the most dispersed countries in the world. It lies between latitudes 1°S and 8°N, and longitudes 72° and 74°E. The atolls are composed of live coral reefs and sand bars, situated atop a submarine ridge 960 kilometres long that rises abruptly from the depths of the Indian Ocean and runs from north to south. Only near the southern end of this natural coral barricade do two open passages permit safe ship navigation from one side of the Indian Ocean to the other through the territorial waters of Maldives. For administrative purposes the Maldivian government organized these atolls into twenty oneadministrative divisions. The largest island of Maldives is Gan, which belongs to Laamu Atoll or Hahdhummathi Maldives. InAddu Atoll the westernmost islands are connected by roads over the reef and the total length of the road is 14 km (9 mi).

osama is dead or not

OK, so 1st May 2011 OBL is shot dead at his compound. By the time The news reaches British daytime news, he has already been buried at sea conforming to Islamic tradition.. Sorry but why?

Why would US forces kill him and then allow his body to be buried at sea. Because he really deserved a respectful funeral? Surely they would have taken his body to a US Base or at least held onto it for a while. Have we seen any pictures of his body?

I know of many Islamic funerals that have taken place on land.

The reason he was buried at sea is because nobody will EVER find his body. Now the masses have been told he is dead, that is what we all believe right?

how to speed up downloads With Your Current Internet Connection

Our internet connections have become faster over the years, but with that our need for speed increased too. And sadly, having a fast internet connection does not mean the server you’re downloading from gives you the speed you pay for. That’s where download managers come in. One of their more interesting features involves speeding up your downloads. So how exactly do they do it?

Getting the software

Before showing you the tricks, let’s have a look at some good download managers. If you’re a Windows user, I’d recommend Free Download Manager (freeware) or GetRight(shareware that never expires). Another big name in the download manager business isDownload Accelerator Plus, but I advise you to stay away from that one because it is ad-supported and tends to slow down your system.

Trick 1: chop the download in pieces

How long does it take to transport 20 people from point A to point B with one taxi? A lot longer than when you have multiple cabs at your disposal. It’s just like that with the internet: in most cases one connection is doing all the work, even though your pipe can handle more than one. When you let a download manager chop your download in segments, simultaneous connections with the server are established that enable you to download different parts of your file at the same time. Often referred to as segmented downloading, this technique can greatly increase your download speed.
I put this to the test by downloadingInternet Explorer 8 (16.1MB) using Firefox and Free Download Manager. It took my browser around 47 seconds at an estimated average of 343 KB/s to download the entire file. FDM did it in a whopping 21 seconds, which accounts roughly for an average speed of 767 KB/s. These calculations are not fully accurate, but the difference is clear. Keep in mind however that your mileage may vary depending on your connection and the server you’re downloading from.
